Australian Blue Heelers are wonderful canine companions. The breed is widely known for its loyalty and protectiveness, making it an excellent choice for an outdoor watchdog. However, Australian Blue Heelers are not necessarily a good fit for small children. Their size, at an average of 25-45 lbs, and their activity level might be overwhelming for young toddlers.

These dogs are high energy and require a lot of exercise. If not exercised, the dog will become frustrated and act out and may be prone to aggression. I would not reccomend this dog for small children.

I would say the dog may be a little too big and energetic for a 20 month child. They like to herd and run around a lot. The ideal home for a heeler is lots of land and maybe some older children to play with. I would say wait until she is older or find a smaller dog!
