Is an abscess with facial swelling cured with antibiotics?

Antibiotics can take some time to work and you should continue taking them. The abcess might have to be drained if it does not go away with antibiotics alone but that is usually the first treatment. It can be cured with just the medication but you have to take the whole dose.

Most antibiotics take a full regimen to work (usually 10 days). If after that the abcess is not healing then you may need minor office surgery.

When it comes to abscess's there is the very good possibility that you will have to have it lanced. This will be done at a doctors office and will usually take less than an hour.

A course of antibiotics is the first line of treatment against an abcess with facial swelling. If this treatment fails the abscess may need to be drained. Depending on the location of the abscess a doctor that specializes in ear, nose and throat may be consulted to perform the drainage.

This can be cured with antibiotics, but if it is not, then you may have to have the infected tooth extracted, which can be very painful; so your doctor is right.

In gereral case, antibiotic consumption may not be required for curing thr abscess with mild facial sweeling. If the condition is severe, yes antibiotics may help.
