Have you searched on eBay? The condition and rarity makes a difference in the value, but an old coin like that should be of interest to collectors, and realistically anything that old is going to be in rough shape anyway. Be sure to check the completed auctions page to see what they actually sold for.

An 1837 penny is definitely worth more than one cent. The value is determined by the condition of the penny. I would suggest having this coin graded.
