It is not recommended to machine wash acetate fabric. It may shrink, distort or wrinkle such that ironing will not help. It is best to dry-clean acetates.

Most Acetate fabric needs to be dry cleaned because it is a synthetic fiber, and is man made. If put in a regular dryer or washing machine the fibers of the fabric may melt or become damaged. Acetate fabric dries relatively fast so you can hand wash the garment and hang dry or dry flat.
