Is a Yamaha XS1100 considered a "chopper"?

I don't know all this motorcycle etiquette.

Well you are close. A chopper refers to a stripped down custom bike. Typically powered by a American made twin engine. The XS1100 on the other hand is more or what people call a standard or "cruiser" bike. It is a metric style bike that is in between a chopper and a sport-bike.

No. The XS1100 is more closely aligned to a naked road bike or naked street bike. The bike looks like the Honda CB1000 or bikes that have little to no plastic farings or unwanted air deflection.
