By definition a sugar alcohol is considered a carbohydrate while a triglyceride is a type of lipid or fat. The two are metabolized and absorbed by the body in two different ways based on their composition. Therefore the answer to your inquiry would be no the two are not alike.

A triglyceride contains 3 fatty acids and a glycerol molecule. Sugar alcohol is formed from monosaccharides or disaccharides which are carbohydrates (or carbohydrate molecules joined together) The answer is no.

Sugar alcohols are a class of carbohydrates called Polyols, and are actually neither sugars nor alcohols. A triglyceride is three fatty acids bound together into one larger molecule.
