Any dog can be a "good mix" as long as they are trained well. However, with small children, you'll want a medium dog. Small dogs are prone to getting injured by small children, and their temperaments aren't really made for dealing with small children either.

As far as disposition goes, this is a good dog for small children. Although with this size dog, you should be concerned about the dog's welfare as well. Small children can inadvertently hurt a small animal while rough-housing. Maltese-Yorkies very delicate dogs, their femurs are thinner than a pencil.

This could be a very good mix. Maltese typically have a very mellow temperament which makes them good with children. Yorkies tend to be more energetic or playful, and also do well with kids. I recommend introducing the dog to children cautiously, as there is always a risk of a dog being aggressive in any breed.

I would not recommend a small breed dog in a household of small children unless you have had the dog a while and trust it. Small dogs often don't have a lot of patience and will snap at the littlest things like your children pulling on it's tail or ears. Plus small dogs can be hurt easily.

If you're gonna get one you should get a puppy and raise it with the kids. If a dog isn't raised with them it won't be as good with them.

No. Small breed dogs are not really good with small children. Kids will pull on their ears and tails which the dogs don't like. Since they have little patience and snap easily they may harm your child.
