If you break your hand, can you still move your fingers?

I hurt my hand and it really hurts when I try to make a fist.

Technically yes, because it is the muscles, ligaments and tendons that move expand and contract to initiate movement. Your bones are for structure and support. If when you move your fingers and it results in shifting the bones that are broken, then of course it will hurt. Most people will take 6-8 weeks for broken bones to heal.

Well it is possible that you sprained your hand. If you are concerned about your hand you should go have it looked at and even have an x-ray. I know it is hard to know exactly what is and there is no saying what it is until a doctor looks at it.

It depends what bones are broken. If there is a lot of pain, swelling, and the hand is black and blue you need to get to your doctor ASAP. If you don't treat a broken bone, it can heal incorrectly and cause a lot of pain and even disability.

Yes, youmay still be able tomove your fingers but with pain. depending ont he fracture location and serverity. The movement in your fingers is provided by the tendons pulling ont he bone to move superiorly or diatally. If your fracture occurs in the metacarpals and is not severe the bone may not have enought bone motion to affect movement.
