It is possible that you are starting your period, that is if you have been taking birth control a while. Your body learns that when you stop taking the pills or when you take the five "period pills", or it could just be a regular side effect.

This means that your period is starting earlier than it would naturally because of the lack of estrogen from the birth control pills. Remember, your period starts during the placebo pill week. Use extra protection because of a high risk of getting pregnant.

Brownish discharge after missing a couple birth control pills is probably just a sign of your menstrual cycle starting. If you resume taking the pills, the discharge goes away.

If you miss more than one pill in a pack it can cause you to spot, or bleed between cycles.
