In order to check to make sure that your shocks are still good, Step on the bumper or grab the body and thrust it down hard. If it bounces multiple times the shocks are bad.

Ask your self how does the ride feel; smooth and controlled or wavy like a boat. Check the tires for bald spots where the tire has been slapping the pavement. Do the bounce test by pressing hard on the bumper to get the car moving up and down at least 6 inches. Stop bouncing did it stop.

For a basic inspection you will need to put the car up on a lift on crawl under it. Clean everything off before inspecting to make it easier to see problem. Then just check all components making sure everything is lubricated and all bolts are snug.

First off check for abnormal tire wear front and rear. Check tire pressure then push down hard on each corner of the vehicle. It shouldn't bounce more than three times.
