First an x-ray to assess damage, then he numbs you, cleans the area with the drill, packs in a filling, and shapes it to fit with your other teeth.

Generally, they will do whatever you or your insurance can afford. Meaning that they will give you a root canal or pull the tooth.

The worst case would be to pull the tooth. Other possibilities, if the cavity is less severe, include a filling, a root canal, or a cap of some sort.

If it isn't too bad the will drill your tooth and give you a filling and maybe a cap. If it's bad they will put it.
