If I filed for a bankruptcy in 2001 will it fall under the old laws or the current laws?

I understand that the bankruptcy laws have changed, will this effect the bankruptcy I filled in 2001.

The bankruptcy that you filed in 2001 is governed by the laws that were in effect when your bankruptcy was filed. Just because the laws have changed, you were filing under a different system. The laws will not change for you because it is possible that you might not have filed under the new laws.

The law in effect at the time you file bankruptcy stands with regard to your filing. Your bankruptcy is no doubt final with all debt addressed and/or discharged. Your circumstances are not effected by subsequent changes to the law. Bankruptcy law is frequently modified, but the greatest changes came in 2005.

Since this bankruptcy is in the past and already settled it's basically over and done with, nothing really should have changed. However, you still are unable to file again for another NINE YEARS.
