Authoress Buchi Emecheta was born in Nigeria but moved to London aged 14 to later become a social worker then a writer. This book deals with an exploration of her African roots and the interaction of traditional Nigerian culture with education, feminism, family obligations and should suit your purpose.

"Double Yoke" is not a bad choice, but there are many better books by African authors. You should consider reading the classic "Things Fall Apart" by Nigerian author Chinua Achebe. If you like fantasy, you may like "The Palm-Wine Drinkard" by the great Amos Tutuola. The Egyptian Nobel Laureate Naguib Mahfouz wrote many great novels--start with his Cairo Trilogy.
