most likely the cable is wore through somewhere and needs replaced or your throttle body is so gummed up that it is sticking open

Well you should definitely not drive it. You might just need to lubricate it. Any surface in the system that makes contact with another surface should be lubricated. Make sure the cable itself is thoroughly lubricated also. Your throttle arm may need replaced.

Stop driving the vehicle until the problem is fixed, this is extremely dangerous. Start at the gas pedal and be sure there are no obstructions such as carpet. Then move under the hood to see if the throttle cable is being restricted by other components. Spray the end of the cable with a lubricant so it may operate freely.

a mechanic at a dealership should look at this. this may be under warranty. also there could be a recall on this issue.

Our Southern friends have submitted various cures for this problem. The most promising seems to be a clothes pin on the fuel line to limit gas flow.

you might have a kink in the cable (check to see if cable is not bent, or looped) if not spray 2+2 on the throttle body on the intake. this will remove carbon deposit that may lead to sticking. I would also check the spring pulls it back
