By nature this breed is very friendly and would be great with a baby or small child. That said, no child under about 6-years-old should EVER be left unattended around any dog regardless of how sweet or friendly they are.

Shih Tzus are funny when it comes to babies. Most likely they will act as a protector of the baby even crying when the baby cries. As the baby gets older keep an eye on the dog and baby together because toddlers sometimes want to pull tails and noses.

Our Shih Tzus have always been wonderful around babies. They tend to be very protective over them and watch them as if they are their own child.

Shih Tzus are curious by nature, so expect your dog to be very interested in your newest addition due to the new smells of baby powder, formula, and diaper cream. Your dog may also be jealous of your baby so it's important to allow this curiosity to be satisfied by alllowing gentle sniffing and even mild licking.

She should do okay. Once the baby is born bring a towel to get the babies sent on it then get your dog used to the new scent and let her sniff the blanket with the new scent and praise her for not being aggressive towards it.
