How to you reduce a ratio to its simplest form?

Ratio can only be reduced when both numbers have a common factor in them. The easiest way to reduce the ratio to its simplest form is to write out the prime factorization of both numbers, cross off the common factors, and finally multiply together the remaining factors for both numbers.

To reduce a ratio a:b (or a/b) to simplest form, find the greatest common factor of a and b, and divide both a and b by this GCF.
