Painting skills are not enough to get you started on your own business. You need to consider the paperworks you need- insurances, license etc. You also have to establish an office to receive your costumers. You also need to estimate your money wisely so as not to go bankrupt.

Starting a painting business is much like any other business as one needs to prepare a business plan that will address areas of financing, labor, marketing and equipment.

Contact national paint chains and see if they want a store in your area. Check out how much it costs to start it up and then check out if you can get the financing for it from a bank. Ask about the time frame from beginning to end to begin this business so you have an approximate start up time.

Firstly, and most importantly, find out how much paint work is needed. Any other painters busy in the area? No? There's a reason. In short: start with market research.
