Box chain is rather complicated. Unless it's a big heavy chain you'd be better off getting a new one. If it's a heavy chain take it to a jeweler.

What I did to repair my box chain was lightly tapping with a hammer and then a dash of crazy glue.

If it is tangled and you don't mind removing some chains, you can shorten it by taking out the bad pieces. Otherwise your best bet would be to take the necklace to a shop.
