You do not need to uninstall the previous operating system to install the new one. However if you do, you will get a boost in overall hard drive memory for the computer. If you decide to install it over windows home edition, when you start the computer, you will be faced with an opent o select what you desire.

You don;t need to uninstall windows home addition before installing the professional version. There are, how ever un wanted problems that may occur when this happens. It has been know to disable you modem and possibly other unsuported hardware during the upgrade process. A clean install will help prevent this.

I should think that Windows XP Professional would easily install over the Home Edition as they are made by the same company. The best thing to do would be to download the program, copy it onto a disc, restart your computer, and then go in and install it.

There isnt a direct way provided by Microsoft. There are ways that employ changes to the registry, but its not totally safe.

No, all you need to do is insert the install CD for Windows XP Professional Edition. You will be presented with a menu and you can select to upgrade the existing installation.
