How should you pack for college?

I am an only child, so I don't have any brothers or sisters that have done this before. I'm going to school far from home, so I have to be sure to pack everything.

Pack light. Lots of clothes for hanging out, a few dressy outfits. Laptop computers are better than desktop computers- bring a pair of laptop speakers too. You'll need a few towels, but you can buy things like soap, shampoo and deodorant when you arrive.

Ship non-breakables. If your driving back, fill your car things that are breakable. Microwave, computer, lamps. Take enough clothes to last a week. Fill the car or trailer.

Contact your roommate to make sure you both aren't bringing the same things. No matter how carefully you pack, some things are more easily bought when you arrive.

If you are going to school far from home then you should actually plan on bringing less with you and purchasing more when you get to school. Make it easier on yourself and just bring essentials and make a list of everything else you think you'll need and buy it after you move in.

Try to think of the things you use weekly, pack those. Then the items that you use in alternate weather and special occasions. Pack those.

That is good advice. Still, it is important to be honest with yourself about what you do need, what you think you need, and what you don\'t need but want to have for comfort/luxury. It\'s hard to distinguish those sometimes.  add a comment
