Be honest with your children regarding their new clasmates, and explain that while they may seem different they are in fact no different than they are, they have feelings, needs and should be included as much as possible. Teach your children not to treat them any different than others.

Explain to your children that some people have different challenges. Explain what autism is and what is known about it and how to be a good classmate to this person.

If your child has a classmate with autism they will be curious about autism. You should explain that children with autism see the world differently than you and me. Some children with autism will have certain habits that are very important to them. Other children may have trouble communicating, or lack social skills. Your child should be patientwith the child.
