Smooth out the walls, filling in cracks and holes. Ensure that the walls are dust and mould free. Always use a primer before you paint, especially on a virgin wall.

Some people roll first; some cut in first. I like to cut in, trim around the ceiling, doors, windows and baseboards. When you start rolling, the work goes very quickly.

First lay down sheets of plastic. Clean the wall of any grime. Then paint the edges of the windows, door and upper molding. They using a roller paint the walls. You might have to put on two coats depending on the color.

To prepare for painting move any furniture and/or wall hangings out of the way. Wash the walls with water to remove any dust. Tape off the trim around the windows, doors, and baseboards. Be sure to put down a drop cloth to protect the floors. When you start painting start with cutting in with a brush around the trim.

You need to get the measurements of the room in square feet so that you know how much paint you will need. Measure each wall length times width.
