How should I go about repairing damaged rafters?

If the damage involves a split, the best method would be to add a suitable piece of wood covering the split. The piece should overlap the split by a good margin, and should be glued and screwed in a sufficient number of locations to assure an even load distribution. Anything more than a simple split would require professional advice.

You should always be safe so first thing you need is eye protection. Next cut your new rafters to length and approiate angle is needed. Then one by one hammer or saw your old rafter out making sure not to remove any load bearing supports. then place your new rafter in and move on to the next one

Support roof. Attach same size material to each side of rafter extending at least 4 feet past damaged area and secure with 6 inch lag bolts.
