Depends on weight, but an average Yorkie should only get close to a cup of food a day. If he/she looks overweight decrease food, increase if skinny.

While I know of perfectly healthy dogs who are fed only once per day, in my own experience I've found that feeding a smaller amount three times per day really helps to maintain the weight of a small dog (much like with people). It also helps them to eat more slowly and feel satisfied.

Most vets recommend feeding a dog no more than twice a day. Some argue that any left over food from a feeding should be picked up and discarded. Others say leave the food in their bowl but be careful to wash the bowls everyday. If your dog isn't too heavy, many dogs enjoy treats made just for them.

Yorkie puppies (six months or younger) should eat 3-4 times per day where as Yorkie's six months and older should be fed twice a day. Please read the side of the dogfood bag to get portion information for his/her feedings.
