Preferably you should find your dogs optimal nutritional intake for the day (how much food they should eat), and distribute that amount to them two to three times a day.

A dog should be fed everyday. Give your dog his own medium sized bowl and then fill it up with dog food. Your dog will come eat the food throughout the day then the next day fill it again. Don't give him a large bowl or else he'll eat it all in one day and become overweight.

Puppies 3 months or younger should be fed at least four times a day, up to 5 months three times a day then once or twice a day afterwards. Read the label on your dog food bag to determine the quantity, then split the feedings accordingly.
