Once a month is the usual pattern for communion. You will also finds pastors that include communion as part of a special service, perhaps more during Lent or Christmas services.

The United Methodist churches I have belonged to generally offer communion once a month, often on the first Sunday of the month. Additionally, there are several special occasions during the year that it may be offered, such as Maudy Thursday. I don't know if all UMC churches follow this policy.
