As often as they wear out. It's really hard to give a time-based life for brake parts because everyone drives differently. John, who delivers pizzas in a big city and lives in heavy traffic, will need more frequent brake jobs than Mary, who drives on the Interstate all the time.

Really it depends on how your drive as well as how much hauling stuff you do. The more weight the brakes have to stop the faster they will wear out. As long as you keep good pads on it though it think you could easily get over 50,00 miles out of a set.

They need to be replaced or "turned" when they get grooves in them more than just little ridges. You can take them to a shop and have them turned inexpensively.

It can be a very vague range depending on the terrain you drive on and the amount of strain you put on your brakes. Usually I'd say about every 6 months you should have your brakes checked to make sure they are in ideal shape.
