New born puppies eat every two hours for the first two weeks. Puppies are born blind and deaf. Because of this factor, it can be hard for them to navigate around the mother and find the nipples to nurse. The mother of the puppies will guide her puppies in nursing properly.

Puppies will feed frequently, especially during the first 36 hours. Mom shouldn't be seperated from the pups except for a short break/walk. After about 8-10 days puppies can go without nursing for 3-4 hours, then on the 15th day they can go for up to five hours during the night.

Pretty much on and off all day.. My dachshund had puppies and they ate all day. If the momma has access to the pups and is doing a good job then she should regulate it. Make sure to feed the mom a lot and that it is a high protein/ calcium diet.

Nursing Pupies eat everytime they are awake. They will get moms nipples to drink milk and when they are full they stop sucking moms nipples then they rest and sleep.

When a newborn puppy is nursing it must feed very often. This is because the puppy needs to be able to fight off potential diseases that they are susceptible to by utilizing the immunities in their mother's milk. Once they have digested enough milk, they will be able to produce their own immunities.

Newborn puppies are somewhat like human babies in the fact that they seem to eat all the time. Somehow the mother knows when they need to eat.
