How often do I need to replace a timing belt on a Lexus rx300?

I was told by my mechanic that I need to replace the timing belt on my Lexus, but I just replaced it two years ago.

After about 60 to 90 thousand miles you should have your timing belt checked to make sure it is operating correctly. You should also include a water pump with your purchase to save time in the future. Since these operate together it is important to inspect both your timing belt and water pump.

Generally, a timing belt needs to be checked between 100,000 and 150,000 miles. At that Time the would generally be replaced. Most warranties state that the timing belt will need to be replaced before 120,000 miles. Seeing that this is a Toyota product I would check and replace the timing belt at 100,000 miles.

It will really depend on how much the engine is driven. A lot of newer belt are gauged by how worn the groves get. I do an inspection every other oil change to make sure it doesn't get too worn.

Generally, timing belts should not exceed 100,000 kilometers or 60,000 miles. Which means high mileage in a short time requires a change of timing belt.

A toyota Sienna has exceeded 150,000 miles and the TB looked in good shape. An RX300 has exceeded 146,000 miles. Thinking about taking to 150,000.
