car repairs

Question by  Roxie33 (16)

How much will it cost, on average, to replace my brakes?

I need an estimate on the total cost to replace my brake shoes and pads, on both the front and rear of my car.

Call around to your local shop to get estimates. There is no way that I can give you a estimate without knowing the year, make, and model of the vehicle.

On average it can cost you about $150 - $250 axle. The variation in price can stem from the make and model of your car and the extent of any damage that may have occurred if the brakes went too long before being repaired. Total job costs for both front and rear brakes apprx. $450-500.

Brake shoes and pads are the same thing. You can expect to pay about $40 for both front and rear. Plus about $20 an hour for however long they take.

The cost to have brakes repaired can very greatly based on the quality of products, where you live, and who does the service. You can buy brake pads for cars relatively inexpensively. Brake pads can usually be bought for under twenty dollars. If you have a shop replace them it may cost hundreds of dollars to have done.

Depending on the make of your car, and if it has disc brakes, drum brakes or both, the average cost will vary, but expect at least $200. If your discs or drums need to be turned, or if you need to replace your master or slave cylinders then much more.
