Most pediatricians do not recommend feeding a 4 month old solids until 6 months of age. The baby sould receive all its nutrition through breastmilk (nurse as often as needed) or formula (approximately every four hours). Solids can induce allergies.

Well I am a recent father and my child consumed about 4 to 6 ounces of formula every 2 to 3 hours. He also ate anywhere from a half jar to a full jar of stage 1 baby food in between his feedings once for dinner around 6 pm.

I started the rice cereal food when she was 4 months old she can take only 3 to 4 spoons of cereal along with breast milk. By fourth month only we have to start other food so only slowly we have to start.

I fed my two children baby rice about two to three teaspoons and their milk feeds when they were hungry. I also started the weaning onto solid foods a little fresh vegetables or a protein food liquidised.
