There are 467 mg of potassium in the average yellow banana. There is only 1 mg of sodium so it helps a lot in keeping a balance between potassium and sodium. Since so much of our food has a lot of sodium, particularly canned goods, a banana can really help.

Bananas have a very high count of potassium per volume. It ratio is 1 per 10,000 parts of potassium. The 10,000 parts include water and carbon molecules.

The amount of potassium in one medium size banana is 451 milligrams, according to the Second Edition of "Nutrition Almanac". Other sources of potassium include green leafy vegetables, whole grains and sunflower seeds.
