The pain following a root canal is due to all the manipulation in the area of the tooth. The gums could be sore, and the bone around the tooth could hurt. It should be more sore than painful. Call your dentist if you are having severe pain.

The amount of pain really depends on how much infection there was before the root canal. Most patients have pain that can be controlled by over the counter pain medicines.

I finished my root canal last month(6 sittings). When my crown was placed, I had mild pain for three days. Now I have pain very rarely. But for you,I think your treatment is not a complete success. Having pain after taking medicines means you need check your doctor immediately as your infected pulp might not completely removed.
