Horses generally shed two times per year, in spring loosing all winter hair, revealing a short, slick summer coat, and in fall, loosing the shorter hair, growing in the heavy winter coat. No bald patches should appear anywhere on the body during this time.

The amount of shedding varies between horses. It greatly depends on how much hair has been grown throughout the winter. If your horse was blanketed and/or indoors it will have far less hair to shed than a horse that was outdoors and not blanketed for the winter.

Winter time brings alot more extra hair to a horse. That means a lot of hair loss in the spring. As long as he still has hair he is fine.

That totally depends on the horse I had an old mare that got alot of really long hair in the winter and when she would shed out in the spirng she would be almost bald until the summer hair grew in my daughters gelding loses very littl.
