how much

Question by  catcuddler (20)

How much did the cross weigh that Jesus carried?

Answer by  Antimony (62)

It is not possible to know exactly how much this particular cross weighed, since this is not recorded. Based on studies of Roman crucifixion, it is generally agreed that the patibulum (the crosspiece, which was what prisoners carried) would likely weigh between 70 and 120 pounds. The entire cross would weight on the order of 300 lb.

Assume that the cross was three to four meters in height (10 - 13 feet) with a transverse branch 2 meters (6. 5 feet) wide, and that the cross was made of pine wood. Based on these assumptions Rohault de Fleury calculated the weight to be 75 Kilograms (165 pounds)
