The lowest part of the state, the eastern half along the Mississippi River, is about 450-500 feet above sea level. The elevation of the state gradually rises as you move west, eventually reaching a pinnacle of about 1700 feet above the sea in the northwest corner of the state.

The highest point in Iowa is 1670 feet from the the sea level and it is in the west on the sterler farm in Osceola county in northwest.
