Total, I'd say 28 states are east of the Mississippi. Fully east are: Michigan, Indiana, Alabama, Ohio, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont. On the Missisipi or partially east of it are: Lousiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
