How many rods are in a furlong?

+6

Answer by  esteban (1334)

1 rod (also called a perch or a pole) is 16. 5 feet, while 1 furlong is 660 feet. Therefore there are 40 rods in one furlong. Both of these were originally used in measuring land.

+4

A standard rod is 5 and a half yards long, while a furlong is one eighth of a mile, or 220 yards. Therefore, simple division will tell you that there are forty rods in one furlong. Rods are still used in surveying and in limited capacities in some other fields.
