The exact amount of hours varies with local laws and individual company policies, however on average a part-time work week is considered to consist of 32 or fewer hours. You generally do not receive many benefits, though some companies do extend them to workers who maintain a minimum number of, for example, 20 hours per week.

In most cases, part time is concidered to be 30 hours per week or less. Each state varies on this slightly, so you would need to verify this for your particular state. The benefit for most employers is they generally don't have to provide benefits to part time employees.

Part time is classified as any job that employs you less than 40 hours a week. Forty or more hours per week is considered full time. If you work two part time jobs for more than 40 hours, it still counts as part time.
