For all practical purposes it won't be fresh by the time it gets to the refrigerator. Most ground meat have been mixed from more than one cow, and it's possible that it comes from more than one country. Treating all meat as if it is already contaminated is a prudent idea. Ground meat should be cooked well and used promptly.

I would only give ground meat a few days in the refrigerator. Maybe two to three at most. Look at the date on the package, the meat will begin to brown and smell as it goes bad. I always freeze ground meat.
