For me, brushing your teeth should not be longer than five minutes. after brushing one must floss your teeth coz brushing was not enough it couldn't get all the dirt in between teeth that causes bad breath and cavities. I think flossing needs more time than brushing because you must do it with care.

Atleast two minutes, but four if you can spare it. I usually tell my kids to hum the "Happy Birthday" song twice!

Dentists recommend brushing your teeth for at least two minutes, twice a day. Some methods that prove to increase the effectiveness of brushing are; holding the brush at a 45 degree angle to the gumline for both the outside and inside gumlines, and clean the chewing surface with short sweeping strokes.

Dentists and research have agreed that 2 minutes is the optimum brushing time. Less time is not sufficient for removing plaque and more time will start to wear down enamel. Some of the newer electric toothbrushes now have a built-in 2 minute timer to encourage this habit.

I am the office manager of a dental office and we are constantly being asked this question. Our dentist recommends 2-4 minutes. Be sure you have flossed your teeth first. Many of the electric toothbrushes give a signal when the time is up. Another way to time yourself is brush during a TV commericial.

You should brush your teeth for as long as it takes you to sing the abc's through twice at a normal pace.
