I'm pretty sure Japanese students attend year round school with six day school weeks. Their education is rigid and rigorous.

The Japanese school year begins in April, regardless of school or level. The positioning and length of vacations, as well as the date of the end of the school year can vary depending on the school and on the level. Universities will usually end during January, while other schools will finish their year some time in March.

The Japanese school year is very complicated. The first semester runs from April 5th to July 21st. Summer vacation begins and they return for the second half of the first semester August 28th. The second semester begins January 8th. Those who are graduating finish March 19th. The rest of the students are released March 24th. Thus, it's basically year round.

I am not sure but I believe that they go to school all year round, and they take short breaks throughout the year.

Japan has a rigorous education system with year round school and six day school weeks. They do not have things like summer vacation in between terms. Intellectually the country is very advanced and many students have to repeat grades.

Japan basically has year-round school. The school calendar roughly follows the fiscal calendar and runs from early April to late March divided into 3 terms with a break between each.
