Tinkertoys were invented in 1914 by a stonemason from Illinois named Charles Pajeau. He made his first set in his garage and displayed it at the 1914 American Toy Fair, without success. He tried again at Christmas, by hiring midgets as elves to sit in a store window and play with them. It was a huge success!

Tinkertoy was a contruction set first made available in 1914. Hasbro now owns the brand and offers it in a plastic version but also the original, wooden version that was first marketed. The set involves a series of spools and sticks in different sizes.

Charles Pajeau invented Tinker Toys in 1914 after observing children playing with pencils, sticks and empty wooden spools. He founded the Toy Tinker Company and Tinker Toys became very popular. For a long time they were sold under the brand Child Guidance, and since 1985 they have been sold by Playskool.
