Remember, this is a serious surgery. But if all goes well with no infections or mishaps, someone would be well enough to go back to normal life in five days. The swelling would be much less by then.

It would largely depend on the individual. Some people heal faster than others. Normally I think about 2-4 days for swelling to go down. A few weeks to heal totally.

A hysterectomy is a major surgery. It depends if the surgery is abdomanal or vaginal but it may be up to 6 weeks after the surgery that you will will experience swelling. Stay off your feet and make sure that you heal well and do not over do it rest

As long as there are no complications, swelling should go down by the fourth week. Make sure you don't drive or do anything that's on the list not to do; this will keep you swelled up and uncomfortable.

Hysterectomy is not a small procedure by any definition or any method of removal. Even a simple, trans-vaginal hysterectomy can take anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks or longer, before the majority of swelling abates.

Swelling from a hysterectomy will last anywhere from three to six weeks depending on the type of incesion that you have and how active you are following the surgery. Follow your doctors orders.

In a hysterectomy swelling tends to last for at least 6 weeks. This, of course, is in addition to the many side effects of a hysterectomy.
