Depending on the size and location of the broken blood vessel this could take as little as 1 to 2 days to as long as 1 to 2 months. If the problem persists longer than a week without pain or longer than 2 days with pain you need to see an optometrist to rule out any injury to the eye.

Most of the times a broken blood vessel will heal on its own in a couple of weeks. If it does not by three weeks, I would consult an eye specialist.

A broken blood vessel can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days to clear up. Redness from rubbing one's eyes will clear up in an hour or so. In some cases the broken blood vessel will remain and never clear up. This will leave red lines in the whites of the eye.

After breaking a blood vessel in your eye you can expect it to be red for one to two weeks. It should clear up after that.

If the broken blood vessel is due to conjunctiva haemorrhage it will take less than one week to clear up.
