Valentine's Day is observed in the UK and in Ireland, but not to the extent it is in the U.S. Hallmark is largely responsible for the great acknowledgement of the holiday in schools, among families and friends, and not just lovers as originally celebrated in honor of St. Valentine. The day doesn't get the same attention anywhere in the world.

Valentine's day is celebrated similarly in most countries. In both the United States and Japan, sweets and candies are given. But in Japan, it is customary in Japan for women only to hand out gifts.
