A large ratchet with a breaker bar, an impact could be used to remove but you don't want to strip it. So tone down the power to it. The ratchet and breaker bar is the best idea, and the way I've always done it. Crank back until its loose enough to remove with your finger.

Remove all of the belts from the pullies. Use an impact gun and unscrew the crank pulley. You might have to use a crankshaft pulley remover.

This is a fairly difficult repair. If you consider yourself a novice i would suggest consulting a licensed mechanic, or at the very least referring to the user manual that came with your car.
