These bolts have been known to loosen or stretch upon severe duty and significant amounts of off roading. Failure to re-torque could cause an out of balance condition or worse, could result in separation of the driveshaft and could cause an accident.

Considering that the drive shaft is spinning at several thousand rpm's as well as constantly increases and decreases in speed. This means that a failure can be very dangerous. At the very least it can leave you stranded on the side of the road. For this reason you should always check your bolt torque whenever recommend by the manufacturer.

It's very important. In fact, it should be re-torqued every 5000 miles. While the bolts don't always come loose, it's better be safe than sorry when dealing with a car.

It is very important. The drive shaft spins at several thousand RPM, constantly changing speed. If it fails, your car won't work.
