It is not difficult to file NY state income taxes, as long as you're truthful. There are certain incentives to living AND working in the same state, so be careful. On the form,it will ask you if NY is your legal residence, check 'NO'.

NY is no more difficult than any other state; however, you need to complete TWO state returns - your resident state and NY. Tax on wages is paid to NY. Fill out NY first, then complete your home state. A tax professional with multi-state experience is your best bet.
