How effective is a parent in influencing teen friendships?

I am concerned about some of my teen's friends, but the more I say, the more she turns to them.

it wouldnt really be so easy to influence your childs friends. even if you forbade her to see them she will still see them to defy you. talk it over.

All you can do as a parent of a teen is try to lead them in the right direction. You cannot pick their friends for them though. The more you try to, the more they will push back and start hiding things from you. It's better to lead by example.

They try to do the opposite of what parent's say at this age. So step back and watch to make sure the other teen is not getting your child in any trouble. A lot of friendships fizzle out on their own if you step back and let it happen on it's own.

If they respect you, then you shouldn't have a problem if you just simple give your opinion and that is it.
